In 1993 I was awarded an Artist in
Residence at the Edna St Vincent Millay
Colony for The Arts located in Austerlitz,
New York. For three months I worked
on a series of charcoal on paper
drawings. Frustrated at the desire to
paint and being on 300 acres with no
phones, TV or radio, let alone an art
supply store. I found an abundant
supply of instant coffee. From this came
many works in charcoal and coffee on
paper.
