My thoughts on teaching by Ruth Chase Boudreaux:

When I finished San Francisco Art Institute in 1990 I began teaching Adults and children.
My first Adult class went for three years. I love teaching teens and adults. Over the years
I've come up with my own theory about how to teach art. You can make amazing art today,
you don't need years of training to do this. I believe that what makes us want to create is
the experience we have when were making art. The feeling of making something look like
what you wanted it to offers great satisfaction. But I don't believe that is why we paint,
dance, make music or even garden. Rather the feeling we get while were creating. Like
meditating or connecting, it's a synchronized feeling. My class doesn't teach you the tricks
to make things look real. I don't teach technique. I teach that when you are connected and
creating at the same time, no matter how abstract or real your work looks, you will always
get a great outcome. But more importantly you will be doing what attracted you to art
making in the first place. A sort of meditative, synchronized feeling.

Over the years I have taught many art classes. All of which have lead me to where I am
now. I started teaching children again when my daughter Adrienne came into my life four
years ago. After talking with Emily from
The Children's Farm about how I didn't care for
teaching children "projects". That it goes against every grain in my body to instruct "how" to
make art in a linear way. She introduced me to Reggio Emilia and I have been hooked.
This method is in many ways similar to how I was introduced to art at San Francisco Art
Institute. Do it, be free and use your eyes, body and soul to create in the moment. So I
began teaching the Parent & Me Class in 2008. I have seen many free spirits come
through my studio. And with joy and curiosity have enjoyed offering a space for these young
creators to play and do what they do naturally - explore - imagine - create.

2009

I am always looking for new teaching opportunities.
